Celem zajęć jest zbudowanie u studentów świadomości „użytkowego” znaczenia ich prac: obrazów i rysunków jako obiektów, które nie służą zaliczeniu, a istnieniu w konkretnej przestrzeni i określonemu oddziaływaniu na ludzi w niej przebywających. Obraz jako obiekt użytkowy posiada oczywiście inne przeznaczenie niż stół czy krzesło, nie mniej jednak posiada je. To właśnie wyraził francuski malarz Henri Matisse mówiąc, że chciałby, aby jego malarstwo oddziaływało na zmęczonego człowieka niczym „wygodny fotel”. Jednak sama przyjemność dla oka nigdy nie była tu nadrzędnym celem. Dobrym przykładem może być sztuka Afryki, która zainspirowała na początku XX wieku twórczość Picassa. Użyte formy i kolory miały tam m.in. za zadanie odstraszać i chronić człowieka w świecie, gdzie obecność złych duchów była równie realna jak w Europe deszcz dla projektanta parasoli. Ważne jest, aby student Wzornictwa określił własny cel w odniesieniu do swoich obrazów. To właśnie z tego indywidualnego powodu wynikać powinna forma jego obrazów i rysunków, a co za tym idzie ich funkcja. Praca nad indywidualną propozycją artystyczną ma pomóc studentom i studentkom zbudować, własną wizję plastyczną, stanowiącą fundament dla kolektywnej współpracy w zawodzie projektanta.

The aim of the classes is to build the students' awareness of the "utilitarian" meaning of their works: paintings and drawings as objects that do not serve as credit, but exist in a particular space and have a specific effect on the people in it. A painting as a utilitarian object obviously has a different purpose than a table or a chair, but it has one nonetheless. This is what the French painter Henri Matisse expressed when he said that he wanted his painting to have an effect on a tired man like a "comfortable armchair". However, mere pleasure for the eye has never been the primary goal here. A good example can be the art of Africa, which inspired Picasso's work in the early 20th century. The forms and colors used there were, among others, meant to deter and protect man in a world where the presence of evil spirits was as real as in Europe rain for the umbrella designer. It is important for the Design student to define their own purpose in relation to their paintings. It is from this individual reason that the form of his paintings and drawings, and consequently their function, should arise. Working on an individual artistic proposal is to help students build their own artistic vision, which is the foundation for collective cooperation in the design profession.
