Teaching goals (program content, subject description)

The essence of the studio's program is to emphasize two key factors in the design process - the architectural design is created in response to the investor's needs, but it is equally important to take into account the conditions that affect the shape of the building. The main reason for this is the need to pay attention to establishing a dialogue between the designed building and the surroundings. The second aspect is the functionality of design solutions and their correctness in relation to the basic requirements of regulations - such as minimum distances, height of rooms, etc. Another issue is shaping the architectural form, maintaining moderation and restraint in the selection of means of expression. In addition, the necessity to use technical knowledge, which was discussed earlier in the construction classes, is stressed.
The program assumptions are reflected in the topics set for each semester. These topics are not too complicated, thanks to which they enable achieving the correct solution of function, structure and form. The topics of the exercises include grading the extent of the issues - the next semesters are increasing the difficulty of tasks. Locations are planned in Warsaw and the province Mazowieckie.
Sample topics:
NSL sem.5: single-family house - for a family of 2 + 2, approximately 130m2 to 150m2 + carport
Locations: in Warsaw (Sadyba, Powsin) or in its vicinity (Hornówek, Ożarów Maz., Kobyłka, Palmiry, Kaliszki)

NSL sem. 6: - to choose from:
• a cash and information corner at the entrance to:
◦ Morysin Park - Warsaw Wilanów
◦ Kampinoski National Park: parking in the village of Palmiry or ul. Estrada
◦ a park in the countryside, with a historic manor in Łukom (near Sierpc);

• confectionery pavilion (sale of finished products) in the Achera city park - Warsaw Ursus, or other park (student's choice agreed with the host)
• a cash and information pavilion for bus passengers at the Marymont metro station
• exhibition and information pavilion on the subject of "ecological life in the city" (greenery in the city, ecological communication, water in the city) in the city park in Warsaw Ursus, or other park (student's choice agreed with the teacher)
