Didactic methods

Combination of elements of the lecture, movie prjections and seminar. 

The didactic process begins with lectures whose themes revolve around the analysis of the content of the film's work, related cultural phenomena, historical background and the tradition of film art. They are a widely treated answer to students' questions and problems during the analysis of the work; then there are discussions related to students' observations.

Comments of individual students are the basis for the discussion (form of the seminar) and the topics of the general nature among the students of the whole year. The final stage is individual conversations, allowing students to freely discuss and ask questions. These three basic forms of classes can alternate if necessary.

Prerequisites

Basic knowledge of the set and costume design for the movie, basic knowledge of the history of cinema.
Lectures are available to all students of the Academy of Fine Arts and other interested parties with the consent of the professor.

Final requirements

Knowledge of the titles and phenomena discussed this semester. The interview with the student is aimed at checking to what extent the student understands the lecture, absorbed the issues raised during the lecture, examples or specific source information and was able to consciously use them at the next stage of work.

Teaching goals (program content, subject description)

1. The ability to consciously analyze the content and message of the film work with the help of statements about the selected film images and their interpretation.
2. Awakening the student's awareness for the author's artistic vision of the work (without technical limitations), which will then be realized in the film.
3. Shaping the skills of choosing the right artistic means, conventions and aesthetic styles appropriate for the designed film.
4. Developing the student's self-esteem skills.
5. Shaping the awareness of the impact of specific design solutions on potential recipients (eg: the influence of film language on colloquial language);
6. Analysis of the impact of a film image.
7. Shaping the concept of the film as an artistic and sociological phenomenon, functioning in a specific social and cultural reality.
8. Developing the skills (and the need) to look for source materials related to the idea of ​​your project and to acquire the knowledge needed to develop it. Acquiring the awareness of philosophical systems that are the basis of the film form.
9. Shaping the workshop skills of the production designer.

Compulsory literature used during classes

Selected texts and documents relating directly or generally to the content and
           the concept of a film work, selected texts on specific phenomena
           cultural or artistic.
          Examples:
a) Relevant films and performances on DVD;
b) Due to the lack of specialist literature on the Polish market, browsing and commenting on the position from the private tutor library.
c) Internet resources regarding the problems raised and their iconography

Additional literature recommended for the student's self learning

Materials from all sources deepening the knowledge about the films discussed in class.

An attempt to obtain a question about the relationship between the artist and the world around him, which is fundamental for today's creator, through the analysis of the film script.

Description of the requirements for the studio, workshop or teaching aids

A fast computer with a good screen and peripheral devices, quick checking of correction effects, home theater for DVD projection, a library with films, performances and programs presenting profiles well-known artists, their statements or artistic and cultural phenomena.

The weekly number of hours of classes or lectures, the number of ECTS points assigned to the subject and information on the form and completion of the subject are included in the study program and Course Cataloque (information is displayed in Akademus system)
